Best Hotels in Argelès Sur Mer
My name is Christophe and I personally visited all of Argelès’ hotels reviewed here. I hope this is useful for you. All the photos and views are my own.
Beau Rivage Argelès Hotel Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
One of the first hotels ever built in Argelès, the Beau Rivage’s strengths are its location, price and beach views.
My Review of Beau Rivage Argelès Hotel
2 Allée du Racou, 66700 Argelès-sur-Mer
A little known fact is that the Beau Rivage and La Reserve restaurant opposite were the first buildings ever built in Argeles-sur-Mer. Since then, the Quentin family bought the hotel in 1980 and proceeded to refurbish it and bring it up to date and they’ve owned the Beau Rivage ever since.
It’s located right bang on the beach with sweeping views of the shore and it’s in the thick of the action and close to lots of restaurants, shops and beach clubs.
The bed & breakfast hotel features a variety of rooms, including standard, sea view and family options all with sea view balconies allowing guests to enjoy the coastal ambiance directly from their accommodations.
What I liked about Beau Rivage Argelès Hotel:
I like the beds – nice and big, clean and modern. The rooms have clearly been modernised relatively recently and, for the price, they bedroom and bathroom is really nice – and yes, they’ve got a sea view balcony, which is a big plus. In an era of inflation and price gouging, the Beau Rivage is very reasonably priced and I think it’s a great fit who want good value for money. Finally, the staff were warm and helpful.
What I liked less about Beau Rivage Argelès Hotel:
This can depend on what you’re looking for, but it’s in the centre, so there’s likely quite a lot of noise at night. Having said that, all rooms are double glazed and it’s great for those who want some holiday buzz and atmosphere. The breakfasts are ok, but for the prices, I think that’s acceptable. The rooms aren’t breathtaking, but perfectly acceptable and clean.
Central Plage Hotel Argelès Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
Well established centrally located Argelès hotel with sea views and nice breakfasts just 100 metres from the beach.
My Review of Central Plage Argelès Hotel
4 All. des Palmiers, 66700 Argelès-sur-Mer
I got a good vibe from the Central Plage hotel starting with organising the hotel visit when they replied quickly and proposed a date to visit – sadly not all hotels are the same and often require pleading to visit the hotel!
The young team showed me round the rooms with pride and passion – there are 38 rooms, many equipped with balconies or terraces, some offering sea views and each room includes air conditioning, minibar and free Wi-Fi.
The location is a stone’s throw from the sea and close to lot of restaurants and bars (including locals favourite bar, Les Vignerons D'Argelès, which is always popular and normally filled with laughter).
What I liked about Central Plage Argelès Hotel:
With light and airy rooms with a beach holiday feel, the Central Plage hotel ticks a lot of boxes. It’s also open for most of the year unlike many hotels, which are only open for the summer season. I liked the buffet breakfast, which was pretty comprehensive. The hotels prices are also hard to beat, which is a big plus in my book! I also liked the fact that they had a playroom for kids. Plenty of parking too opposite the hotel.
What I liked less about Central Plage Argelès Hotel:
It’s on a main road, so bound to be a little noisy, but all rooms are double glazed and air conditioned. Other than that, for the price, quality and location, you can’t really complain.
Le Fanal Argelès Hotel Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
Full of old charm and character and right bang on the beach, this little gem is located in the quiet area of local’s favourite beach, Le Racou, a few minutes from Argelès, allowing you to practically jump into the sea from your hotel room.
My Review of Le Fanal Argelès Hotel
50 Avenue Torre d'en Sorre, 66700 Argelès-sur-Mer
When I walked in to Le Fanal, the manager, Patrick, was busy rushing off to his daughter’s wedding, but we set a date to meet up again and he passionately told me the story of Le Fanal.
As one of the first buildings in Le Racou, it started life as a restaurant in the 1950s and then became a hotel called La Caravelle in the 1960s. Tragically, there was a fire in the 1980s and it was then that Patrick bought it and brought it back to life and renamed it Le Fanal meaning “lamp”.
Hotels run through Patrick’s veins. His mother used to run hotels and later, as a young man, Patrick worked as a chef and hotel manager across France and even Reunion Island, so he jumped at the chance of running his own hotel and restaurant and Le Fanal was born.
Ok, so the history lesson is over. Now on to the well-appointed rooms, some of which include private terraces with sea views. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, flat-screen televisions and en-suite bathrooms. It’s also airy, spacious and clean.
Le Fanal boasts an on-site restaurant well known for its laid back feel, seafood dishes and views of the beach.
What I liked about Le Fanal Argelès Hotel:
I think you can tell I liked Le Fanal – Patrick’s passion shone through, it also has a very relaxed beach shack vibe and I’ve tempted to stay their with my wife and daughter to spend a weekend lazing between Racou Beach, the restaurant and the bedroom. For a hotel so close to the beach, quiet rooms, with a restaurant below, the prices are good too.
What I liked less about Le Fanal Argelès Hotel:
I’m really stumped as to anything negative to say. It doesn’t have parking. If it gets windy, you probably get some sand in your room, but that’s all I can think of.
Maritime Hotel Argelès Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
The Maritime Hotel’s a short walk from the beach on a quiet street with a pool, sun loungers and nice rooms. What’s not to like?
My Review of Maritime Hotel Argelès
12 Bd des Albères, 66700 Argelès-sur-Mer
All good hotels start with a good story. Olivier was a tech entrepreneur living in Paris in his 40s and was fed up. He wanted a big change, so he sold up and moved south with his wife, son and dog and bought an old priory in the Gard region of France and turned it into a guest house. Following that, he moved to Vence, near Cannes, and bought a small hotel there.
I get the feeling that Olivier is energetic, ambitious and creative, so it’s not surprising that he then bought the Maritime Hotel in 2021 and he’s being work hard to upgrade and improve the hotel from top to bottom. Improvements made is full refurbishments of the rooms, changing all the curtains and moving all the air conditioners from the balconies to the roof, so that guests have more space and comfort.
I asked him why Argelès? His answer – I like swimming! His hotel in Vence was 7 miles from the sea, so the Maritime Hotel was an ideal location so he could get to his daily swim!
The Maritime Hotel has 34 rooms all with air conditioning, flat-screen televisions, en-suite bathrooms and some rooms include private terraces.
What I liked about Maritime Hotel Argelès:
I loved the pool and terrace, which is a rare commodity in Argelès. The rooms have clearly been upgraded and they smelt nice (I realise that sounds strange, but it’s an important factor). The fact that the Maritime Hotel is on a side road is a plus – it feels a bit out of the way from the crowds – and yet it’s a short walk to the beach, so you can get the best of both worlds.
What I liked less about Maritime Hotel Argelès:
The breakfast is perfectly acceptable, but not mind blowing. Having said that, the prices are good for a beach town hotel. There’s no restaurant, but there are plenty of eating options close to the hotel.
Les Mimosas Argelès Hotel Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
Just 150 metres from the picturesque "Plage des Pins" beach in Argelès, Les Mimomas hotel is nicely tucked away on a side street and has a really nice private terrace and garden for having breakfast or reading a book in the shade.
My Review of Les Mimosas Argelès Hotel
You can often gauge a hotel by the welcome you get and when I walked in and introduced myself, the owners, Eric & Sandrine, were enthusiastic to introduce me to their hotel. Originally from Toulouse with a career in hotels when he was young, Eric then fell in to property management, but Eric and Sandrine both wanted a change of scenery, fresh air and the sea and mountains, so they started hotel hunting.
They purchased Les Mimosas just two years ago and were stuck in to refurbishing it and making lots of improvements and you can see the passion in their eyes. The results speak for themselves as Eric showed me how he’d repainted the walls to mural colours and created a chill-out garden for guests.
Les Mimosas hotel has 27 comfortable rooms, including air conditioning, flat-screen televisions, en-suite bathrooms and some rooms are equipped with private balconies. The hotel is pet-friendly.
What I liked about Les Mimosas Argelès Hotel:
Three words: beach, quiet and garden. So, you can have your cake and eat it. You can go over to the beach or party until late at night and then retreat like a vampire back to Les Mimosas. The rooms are clean, upgraded and spacious for the price. And, yes, the prices are good value for money.
What I liked less about Les Mimosas Argelès Hotel:
There’s no parking. The breakfast is OK, but nothing special. Apart from that, few complaints.
